Greenville expo 2017

 

Greenville (South Carolina, US) and Kortrijk have been sister cities since 1991. Both cities share a rich history of textile industry. Nowadays, both cities have developed into economic leaders in the fields of new materials, food and design. Greenville focuses on among other things, automotive industry, aerospace engineering and biosciences. In their arts programs as well, innovation in the field of textiles is significantly highlighted.

During the Week van het Ontwerpen, The Fine Arts Center of Greenville, South Carolina, will present a number of students’ projects from its Fiber Arts Program.

The Fine Arts Center of Greenville, SC provides 1974 advanced comprehensive arts instruction to students who are artistically talented and wish to take an intensive pre-professional program of study.  Students study architecture, theatre, dance, visual arts, music, creative writing, or digital filmmaking.

The Visual Arts Department at the Fine Arts Center includes Fiber Arts, Design, Metals, Drawing/Painting, Ceramics, Photography and Art History in which students develop their technical skills along with their unique artist voice.

The objective of the Fiber Arts program is to introduce foundational fiber techniques and concepts, focusing on surface design and fabric construction techniques, craftsmanship and presentation skills, and to enable exploration of fiber as a material for artistic expression.

The purpose of Metals Courses at the Fine Arts Center is to introduce skills to enable exploration of metal as a medium for artistic expression. The student is introduced to techniques such as forming, cold connecting, soldering, surface embellishment, wire working, patinas, and enameling.
